Higgs Drilling is a proudly family-run business with a commitment to quality and customer service. With over 35 years of industry expertise, Neil Higgs, our founder, has drilled thousands of water bores in the Perth Region.
Higgs Drilling and Exploration began by drilling mud rotary boreholes on the Swan Coastal Plain of the Perth region. They were among the first in Perth to adopt Pneumatic Hammer drilling, enabling access to groundwater within the granite of the Perth Hills.
Higgs Drilling reputation for quality and commitment soon spread to regional WA and every year we complete many drill programs for people in country WA, with most being return customers.
At Higgs Drilling, we continuously expand our capabilities to better serve our clients. Today, we boast a modern fleet of high-capacity equipment, complemented by a comprehensive inventory of support and ancillary machinery, that is able to cater for a diverse array of applications.
Our experience, as well as equipment, is a critical component in being able to achieve our goal of producing a quality result. We are focused on offering an honest, safe and reliable service to deliver customised drilling projects.
Higgs Drilling & Exploration prioritises safety, adhering to the Australian Drilling Industry Association (ADIA) requirements and best industry practices. We operate with modern equipment and are committed to uphold premium standards and a safe work environment on every site.
We strive to deliver a quality service, while maintaining great relationships with our clients. Higgs Drilling continues to adapt and engineer solutions to combat the complexities that can present while drilling, offering tailored and cost-effective solutions to meet each client's unique circumstance.
We Specialise in Mud Rotary and Pneumatic Hammer drilling methods to construct water bores. This enables us to drill for water into the sediments of the Perth Basin as well as into hard rock of the Darling Range and beyond to chase water bearing fractures and paleochannels. Holding a Class 2 licence means we can drill into the upper Superficial aquifer and into deeper aquifers, where permits allow.
While water bores are mainly what we drill for, we have completed Air core mineral exploration programs, de-watering programs, water monitoring projects and other services and special projects.
If you require a bore, it is more than likely that we have drilled close-by or in a similar setting, having drilled thousands of bores in WA, we can give advice based on first-hand experience. Our experienced and accredited drillers can help give recommendations on site selection, bore construction and assist with hydrogeological information.
The health and safety of our employees is our top priority. We take a proactive stance by continuously enhancing our systems and training programs to create a safer workplace. Our Risk Management Process supports our HSE System by identifying workplace hazards, assessing the associated risks, and implementing necessary changes.
We understand our responsibility to preserve our precious ground water aquifers. All bores are constructed by accredited drillers to meet Australian Drilling Industry Association (ADIA) minimum standards and best industry practices.
Higgs Drilling understands our “Duty of Care” obligations for the prevention of workplace incidents and is committed to maintaining environmental standards. In line with this commitment our integrated management system ensures proper work practices as determined by our Environmental Management Plan (EMP) which is an integral part of the company operational procedures.
The company EMP is a structured process for achieving objectives and targets in the management of the environment and is based on AS/NZS/ISO 14001.
Higgs Drilling understands that an effective EMP demands strong management and leadership, with the commitment and involvement of all employees and relevant stakeholders. We strive to embrace a workplace culture which ensures that, “environmentally safe behaviour becomes the way things are done.”
Our Risk Management Process is based on AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 “Risk Management – Principles and Guidelines” and underpins our Health and Safety Management System through identification of hazards in the workplace and assessing the risks arising from the hazards.
